Carrie and Brandon’s destination wedding in Tuscany brought together everything that makes an Italian wedding so special: a beautiful historic villa, rolling hills, long tables set outdoors, vibrant color, and a celebration that felt completely at home in the Italian countryside.
The couple chose Lucca, Italy, for their multi-day wedding celebration, with their wedding day taking place at a private villa surrounded by the Tuscan landscape. Italy had been part of Carrie’s vision long before she met Brandon, which made celebrating their marriage here feel particularly meaningful.
Color became one of the defining elements of the wedding. Carrie describes herself as having a bubbly, colorful personality, although you might never guess it from her surroundings. Her home, wardrobe, and everyday style tend to lean toward beautiful neutrals. For her wedding, she went in an entirely different direction, embracing vibrant shades of pink, yellow, orange, red, and blue. The result felt joyful, expressive, and perfectly suited to a summer celebration in Tuscany.
The outdoor ceremony overlooked the surrounding mountains beneath dramatic skies, followed by an al fresco reception at one long table in front of the villa. Colorful florals, fruit, patterned details, and candlelight filled the table, while the historic architecture and Tuscan countryside created a timeless backdrop. As daylight softened over the hills, dinner transitioned into an evening of celebration with their closest family and friends.
Photographing a destination wedding in Tuscany was particularly meaningful to me. Italy has held a special place in my heart for many years. It was one of the first countries I traveled to while I was in college, and I still remember falling in love with Tuscany on that first trip. I’ve returned to Italy several times since, yet the landscape, old villas, winding roads, and warm evening light still have a way of feeling a little magical to me.
There are places you visit and places that somehow stay with you. Tuscany has always been the latter for me. Getting to photograph Carrie and Brandon beginning their marriage in one of my favorite corners of the world made this celebration especially memorable, and reminded me why I’m always so happy to find my way back to Italy.
The day began with gray skies and a little rain, but soon the clouds gave way to sunshine, perfectly matching the vibrant celebration that was about to unfold.
