When you think of a gay wedding inspiration shoot, you probably envision a mix of creativity, love, and unique locations—and that’s exactly what we captured with Michael and Douglas at the Dallas World Aquarium. From their stunning portraits in the Shark Tunnel to their intimate moments by the waterfall, this styled wedding inspiration shoot showcases how a unique venue can bring your vision to life.
Starting the Day: Dallas World Aquarium as the Perfect Backdrop
Back in March of 2019, while photographing a wedding, I noticed a beautiful couple on the dance floor—Michael and Douglas. The way they looked at each other, the joy in their eyes, and the way they moved together was simply magnetic. I knew immediately that I wanted to photograph them. Fast forward to when my friend Tina, from Serendipity Events by Tina, suggested a styled wedding shoot. It didn’t take long for me to reach out to Michael and Douglas, who had just married a few months earlier. They were more than happy to model for us, and it was serendipitous that the colors from their real wedding—gold and navy—matched our theme perfectly.
The Ceremony Inspiration: A Waterfall Wedding by the Toucan Terrace
The Dallas World Aquarium served as the perfect venue for a stunning, creative wedding inspiration shoot. For the ceremony, we chose the Toucan Terrace, with its gorgeous waterfall setting as the backdrop. The tropical surroundings made it feel like a dream wedding location—one that is ideal for couples seeking a unique and unforgettable celebration. This venue truly shows how a creative, unconventional space can bring your wedding vision to life.
Intimate Portraits in the Shark Tunnel & Manatee Cave
After the ceremony inspiration, we took Michael and Douglas for portraits in the Shark Tunnel. The lighting and the atmosphere were perfect for capturing intimate moments, with the aquarium’s massive tanks providing a dramatic backdrop for their love. Later, we explored the Manatee Cave, where the cozy, lounge-like vibe added another layer of personality to their photos. Although the manatee wasn’t active at the time, we captured some amazing shots that perfectly showcased the couple’s playful and affectionate connection.
Reception Inspiration: Art and Elegance
The reception setup at the aquarium’s main hall was nothing short of extraordinary. The space was decorated with original artwork by Andy Warhol, which added an element of sophistication and artistry to the overall theme. This unique setting helped create a classic yet contemporary feel for the reception, while also celebrating the couple’s individual style.
Showcasing the Dallas World Aquarium: A Venue for All Love Stories
This gay wedding inspiration shoot at the Dallas World Aquarium not only highlights a venue filled with personality, but also captures a love story full of heart. Michael and Douglas’ love is the epitome of true connection, and we were able to highlight that connection in a setting that reflects their style, individuality, and vibrant personalities. Whether you’re looking for a wedding inspiration shoot or planning your own special day, Dallas World Aquarium offers endless possibilities for creating a wedding celebration that’s as unique as your love story.
